Prayers Can't be Answered Unless They Are Prayed

Life without purpose is barren indeed-
There can't be a harvest unless you plant seed,
There can't be attainment unless there's a goal,
And man's but a robot unless there's a soul.
If we send no ships out, no ships will come in,
And unless there's a contest, nobody can win,
For games can't be won unless they are played,
And prayers can't be answered unless they are prayed.
So whatever is wrong with your life today,
You'll find a solution if you kneel down and pray
Not just for pleasure, enjoyment, and health,
Not just for honors and prestige and wealth,
But pray for a purpose to make life worth living,
And pray for the joy of unselfish giving,
For great is your gladness and rich your reward
When you make your life's purpose the choice of the Lord.

God Is Our Encouragement

Sometimes we feel uncertain
  and unsure of everything,
Afraid to make decisions,
dreading what the day will bring,
We keep wishing it were possible
to dispel all fear and doubt
And to understand more readily
just what life is all about.
God has given us the answers,
  which too often go unheeded,
But if we search His promises
  we'll find everything that's needed
To lift our faltering spirits
  and renew our courage too,
For there's absolutely nothing
too much for God to do-
For the Lord is our salvation
and our strength in every light,
Our redeemer and protector,
  and eternal guiding light.
He has promised to sustain us,
He's our refuge from all harms,
And underneath this refuge
  are the everlasting arms.
So cast your burden on Him,
  seek His counsel when distressed,
And go to Him for comfort
  when you're lonely and oppressed.
For God is our encouragement
  in trouble and in trials,
And in suffering and in sorrow
He will turn our tears to smiles.

Before You Can Dry Another's Tears

Let me not live a life that's free
From the things that draw me close to Thee,
For how can I ever hope to heal
The wounds of others I do not feel?
If my eyes are dry and I never weep,
How do I know when the hurt is deep?
If my heart is cold and it never bleeds,
How can I tell what my brother needs?
For when ears are deaf to the beggar's plea
And we close our eyes and refuse to see
And we steel our hearts and harden our mind
And we count it a weakness whenever we're kind,
We are no longer following the Father's way
Or seeking His guidance from day to day-
For without crosses to carry and burdens to bear,
We dance through a life that is frothy and fair,
And chasing the rainbow we have no desire
For roads that are rough and realms that are higher.
So spare me no heartache or sorrow, dear Lord,
For the heart that is hurt reaps the richest reward,
And God enters the heart that is broken with sorrow
As He opens the door to a brighter tomorrow,
For only through tears can we recognize
The suffering that lies in another's eyes.

Everybody Needs Somebody

Everybody, everywhere, no matter what his station,
Has moments of deep loneliness
  and quiet desperation,
For this lost and lonely feeling
  is inherent in mankind
It is just the Spirit speaking as God tries again to find
An opening in the worldly wall
  man builds against God's touch,
For he feels so self-sufficient
that he does not need God much.
But the answer keeps eluding him
for in his selfish, finite mind
He does not even recognize that he cannot ever find
The reason for life's emptiness
  unless he learns to share
The problems and the burdens
  that surround him everywhere
So open up your hardened hearts
  and let God enter in
He only wants to help you a new life to begin.
And this can only happen when you realize it's true
That everyone needs someone
  and that someone is you!

Cast Your Burden On The Lord

Remember me, God?
I come every day
Just to talk with You, Lord,
And to learn how to pray.
You make me feel welcome,
You reach out Your hand,
I need never explain
For You understand.
I come to You frightened
And burdened with care
So lonely and lost
So filled with despair,
And suddenly, Lord,
I'm no longer afraid,
My burden is lighter
And the dark shadows fade.
Oh, God, what a comfort
To know that You care
And to know when I seek You
You will always be there!

Faith Is A Candle

So if we say we are his friends, but go on living in spiritual darkness and sin, we are lying. But if we are living in the light of God's presence, just as Christ does, then we have wonderful fellowship and joy with each other, and the blood of Jesus his Son cleanses us from every sin (John 1:6,7 TLB).

In this sick world of hatred
and violence and sin,
Where men renounce morals
And reject discipline,
We stumble in darkness
Groping vainly for light
To distinguish the difference
Between wrong and right,
But dawn cannot follow
This night of despair
Unless faith lights a candle
In all hearts everywhere.
And warmed by the glow
Our hate melts away
And love lights the path
To a peaceful, new day.

God Give Us Drive

There's a difference between drive and driven-
The one is selfish, the other God-given,
For the driven man has but one goal-
Just worldly wealth and not riches of soul...
And daily he's spurred on to reach and attain
A higher position, more profit and gain.
Ambition and wealth become his great needs
As daily he's driven by avarice and greed.

But most blessed are they who use their drive
To work with zeal so all men may survive,
For while they forfeit great personal gain,
Their work and their zeal are never in vain,
For they contribute to the whole human race,
And we cannot survive without growing in grace.

So help us, dear God, to choose between
The driving forces that rule our routine
so we may make our purpose and goal
Not power and wealth but the growth of our souls,
And give us strength and drive and desire
To raise our standards and ethics higher,
So all of us and not just a few
May live on earth as You want us to.

Look on the Sunny Side

There are always two sides- the good and the bad,
The dark and the light, the sad and the glad-
But in looking back over the good and the bad,
We're aware of the number of good things we've had,
And in counting our blessings, we find when we're through
We've no reason at all to complain or be blue.
So thank God for good things He's already done,
And be grateful to Him for the battles you've won,
And know that the same God who helped you before
Is ready and willing to help once more.
Then with faith in your heart, reach out for God's hand
And accept what He sends, though you can't understand...
For our Father in heaven always knows what is best,
And if you trust His wisdom, your life will be blessed...
For always remember that whatever betide you,
You are never alone, for God is beside you.

The Power of Love

In this restless world of struggle
it is often hard to find
Answers to the questions
that disturb our peace of mind,
And our hearts are lost and lonely
as we search to find the key
To the meaning of all living
and to immortality.
But we'll never find the answers
in science, graphs, and charts,
For the only real solution
must be found within our hearts.
For the answer to all living
God holds safely in His keeping,
And only when we know Him,
will we find what we are seeking-
For to know Him is to love Him,
and to love Him is to find
The answer to all questions
that fill every troubled mind.

Thy Will Be Done

God did not promise sun without rain,
Light without darkness or joy without pain.
He only promised strength for the day
When the darkness comes and we lose our way.
For only through sorrow do we grow more aware
That God is our refuge in times of despair,
For when we are happy and life's bright and fair.
We often forget to kneel down in prayer.
But God seems much closer and needed much more
When trouble and sorrow stand outside our door,
For then we seek shelter in His wondrous love,
And we ask Him to send us help from above.
And that is the reason we know it is true
That bright, shining hours and dark, sad ones too
Are part of the plan God made for each one,
And all we can pray is "Thy will be done."
So know that you are never alone
For God is your Father and you're one of His own.

No Time To Pray

I knelt to pray but not for long,
I had too much to do.
I had to hurry and get to work,
For bills would soon be due.

So I knelt and said a hurried prayer,
And jumped up off my knees.
My Christian duty was now done,
My soul could rest at ease.

All day long I had no time,
To spread a word of cheer.
No time to speak of Christ to friends,
They'd laugh at me I'd fear.

No time, no time, too much to do,
That was my constant cry,
No time to give to souls in need.
But at last the time, the time to die.

I went before the Lord,
I came and I stood with downcast eyes.
For in His hands God held a book;
It was the book of life.
God looked into his book and said, "Your name I cannot find.
I once was going to write it down...
But never found the time."

Eternal Ink

I dreamed I was in heaven
Where an angel kept God's Book
He was writing so intently
I just had to take a look.

It was not, at first, his writing
That made me stop and think
But the fluid in the bottle
That was marked eternal ink.

This ink was most amazing
Dark black upon his blotter
But as it touched the parchment
It became as clear as water.

The angel took no notice,
But kept writing on and on.
He turned each page and filled it
Till all its space was gone.

I thought he wrote to no avail,
His efforts were so vain
For he wrote a thousand pages
That he'd never read again.

And as I watched and wondered that
This awesome sight was mine,
I actually saw a word stay black
As it dried upon the line.

The angel wrote and I thought I saw
A look of satisfaction.
At last he had some print to show
For all his earnest action.

A line or two dried dark and stayed
As black as black can be,
But strangely the next paragraph
Became invisible to see.

The book was getting fuller,
The angel's records true,
But most of it was blank, with
Just a few words coming through.

I knew there was some reason,
But as hard as I could think,
I couldn't grasp the significance
Of that eternal ink.

The mystery burned within me,
And I finally dared to ask
The angel to explain to me
Of his amazing task

And what I heard was frightful
As the angel turned his head.
He looked directly at me,
And this is what he said...

I know you stand and wonder
At what my writing's worth
But God has told me to record
The lives of those on earth.

The book that I am filling
Is an accurate account
Of every word and action
And to what they do amount.

And since you have been watching
I must tell you what is true;
The details of my journal
Are the strict accounts of YOU.

The Lord asked me to watch you
As each day you worked and played.
I saw you as you went to church,
I saw you as you prayed.

But I was told to document
Your life through all the week.
I wrote when you were proud and bold,
I wrote when you were meek.

I recorded all your attitudes
Whether they were good or bad.
I was sorry that I had to write
The things that make God sad.

So now I'll tell the wonder
Of this eternal ink,
For the reason for its mystery
Should make you stop and think.

This ink that God created
To help me keep my journal
Will only keep a record of
Things that are eternal.

So much of life is wasted
On things that matter not
So instead of my erasing,
Smudging ink and ugly blot,

I just keep writing faithfully and
Let the ink do all the rest.
For it is able to decide
What's useless and what's best.

And God ordained that as I write
Of all you do and say
Your deeds that count for nothing
Will just disappear away.

When books are opened someday,
As sure as heaven is true;
The Lord's eternal ink will tell
What mattered most to you.

If you just lived to please yourself
The pages will be bare,
And God will issue no reward
For you when you get there.

In fact, you'll be embarrassed,
You will hang your head in shame
Because you did not give yourself
In love to Jesus' Name.

Yet maybe there will be a few
Recorded lines that stayed
That showed the times you truly cared,
Sincerely loved and prayed.

But you will always wonder
As you enter heaven's door
How much more glad you would have been
If only you'd done more.

For I record as God sees,
I don't stop to even think
Because the truth is written
With God's eternal ink.

When I heard the angel's story
I fell down and wept and cried
For as yet I still was dreaming
I hadn't really died.

And I said: O angel tell the Lord
That soon as I awake
I'll live my life for Jesus-
I'll do all for His dear sake.

I'll give in full surrender;
I'll do all He want me to.
I'll turn my back on self and sin
And whatever isn't true.

And though the way seems long and rough
I promise to endure.
I'm determined to pursue the things
That are holy, clean and pure.

With Jesus as my helper,
I will win lost souls to Thee,
For I know that they will live with Christ
For all eternity.

And that's what really matters
When my life on earth is gone
That I will stand before the Lord
And hear Him say, well done.

For is it really worth it
As my life lies at the brink?
And I realize that God keeps books
With His eternal ink.

Should all my life be focused
On things that turn to dust?
From this point on I'll serve the Lord;

I can, I will, I must!

I will NOT send blank pages
Up to God's majestic throne
For where that record's going now
Is my eternal home.

I'm giving all to Jesus
I now have seen the link
For I saw an angel write my life
With God's Eternal Ink.
